Jewar airport construction to start by year-end, says UP govt

The construction work for the proposed airport at Jewar, the second one in the national capital region, will start by year-end, government said today.

The has received in-principle approval from the Centre for the project and expects the airport to have a capacity to handle 60 lakh passengers annually by 2022-23.

"After the green signal from the central government, the construction work for the much awaited second in NCR region will commence by the end of 2018," Civil Aviation Department said in a release.

The airport at would help in easing the traffic at the international aerodrome.

"Many sectors will benefit with the development of this airport and it will be really beneficial for the people of western who have to travel more than 250 km for or airports," Civil Aviation Minister said in the release.

Citing a report about the airport project prepared by consultancy PwC, the release said 88 per cent of the traffic there would be domestic.

Airport would be able to handle 10 million passengers annually by 2029-30 and 100 million by 2050.
