Indore: DAVV introduces new system a day before exams begin

Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) on Monday introduced a new code system, a day before annual examinations are to begin from Tuesday. The college principals have been directed to implement it. As per the new system, the exam centres (colleges) would have to ensure that every examinee puts a computer centre (CC) code on his/her answer books so that it would be tracked during evaluation process.

This system has been introduced without any training given to invigilators and prior information to college principals, who happen to be superintendents of exam centres. More surprisingly, merely half of the superintendents are aware of this new system. For the rest, the university would send teams to the examination centres who will guide them “on-the- spot” what to do under the new system.

“The exams start at 7 am on Tuesday. Our teams will rush to the centres in the wee hours and train invigilators on the spot,” said vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad. After a gap of nine years, the university is re-launching annual pattern of examination for traditional undergraduate courses from Tuesday.

A day before the exams, the university on Monday convened meeting of superintendents of exam centres to discuss about preparation for yearly exams. Superintendents of nearly 35 out of 80 exam centres under the DAVV attended the meeting wherein they were informed about the CC code system.

They were also given a brief training on the new system so that they could train invigilators. One of the principals said that the university has no proper planning for annual exams. “They should have taken decision on implementation of this system at least a month before and gave proper training to invigilators,” he told Free Press.

Another principal stated that representatives from less than 40 colleges out of 80 where examinations are to be held were present at the meeting. “When we asked how information of the new system will reach new principals, the university officers started looking at each other. They do not have answer to the question.

Eventually, they said they will make sure that every principal concerned gets information of new system,” he stated. Dhakad said that the new system is for tracking answer books after exams. “If any student will not put CC code on his answer book, then his copy will be tracked through his roll number. So colleges should not worry about failure of the system,” he said.

Lead colleges made sub-centres for evaluation

The university has made lead government colleges as sub-centre for evaluation of answer books. The answer books will reach sub-centres and principals will distribute them among examiners. After evaluation, the examiners will return the answer books to the sub-centres, which will reach the university evaluation centre where results will be prepared.

For tracking answer books during this journey, the new CC code system has been introduced. Besides, OMR sheet system has also been introduced to speed up the result process. “The OMR sheet system will replace counter file system,” said computer centre in-charge Niranjan Shrivastava who along with his subordinate Anand More developed the new system.
