Cauvery issue: DMK, opposition parties stage protest

Around 2,500 cadres form human chain

Leaders and members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Congress, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam staged a protest by forming human chain on Nanjappa Road and Cross Cut Road on Monday to urge the Centre to constitute the Cauvery Management Board.

DMK leaders who participated in the protest said that the protest was against the Centre, which had failed to constitute the Board as per the Supreme Court verdict on the issue.

After the Tamil Nadu Government had moved the contempt petition, the Centre had sought more time. This was denying Tamil Nadu its rightful quantity of Cauvery water.

Therefore to condemn the Centre, the DMK leadership had decided to join hands with other parties to stage the human chain protest, they said. Around 2,500 persons including 500 women participated in the protest, said sources.

A similar protest was held in Tirupur. The cadres formed a human chain from Pushpa cinema junction to SAP cinema junction.
