A Watervliet man is facing attempted murder and weapons charges after a shooting on First Street Monday night.

At about 7 p.m., officers on First Street heard a gunshot and saw Shayquan Deans, 23, running down the street with a handgun in his hand, Albany police said.

The officers chased Deans on foot and took him in to custody shortly after that. Police recovered a .38 caliber handgun and charged Deans with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of a firearm.

The 24-year-old man Deans allegedly shot was later found at Albany Memorial Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to one of his legs.

Deans was arraigned Tuesday morning and sent to Albany County jail without bail. His next appearance is April 27.
