Avengers Infinity War on its way to become biggest Hollywood opener in India

Avengers: Infinity War is seeing massive ticket sales in India. The Marvel superhero film opened its advance ticket window on Sunday, three days before the regular Wednesday. It is expected to get the biggest opening for a Hollywood film in India.

Avengers: Infinity War is on its way to secure the highest opening for a Hollywood film in India. Marvel’s mega superhero ensemble began showing extraordinary trends right from the time its ticket counters opened. As against the regular norm of starting the advance bookings on a Wednesday, cinema halls across India instead opened its ticket sales on Sunday (April 22), leaving fans shocked. While many weren’t even aware of the advance bookings, those who got to know rushed to buy tickets as the shows went houseful within minutes.

Online booking site BookMyShow confirmed with indianexpress.com how the booking for Avengers: Infinity War skyrocketed soon after they opened the advance booking, ending up with the highest day 1 sales for any Marvel or superhero film till date. This, when the advance booking was available only for the 3-day weekend, that is from April 27 (Friday) to April 29 (Sunday).

Ashish Saksena, COO-Cinemas at BookMyShow, shared with indianexpress.com, “The response to ticket bookings for Avengers: Infinity War has been extremely encouraging across formats. And while, as expected, the craze for watching the film on an IMAX screen is huge, the sales have been remarkable even for the 3D format. Given the huge anticipation around the film from fans, Disney opened the advance bookings on Sunday instead of Wednesday as is the trend and this turned out to be a rewarding decision. On BookMyShow, Avengers: Infinity War has clocked the highest Day 1 sales for any Marvel or superhero film till date and we expect the film to have a blockbuster opening this Friday.”

He further added, “Over the years, Marvel films have cultivated a huge following in India and Avengers: War Infinity is definitely a highly anticipated film that the audiences are eagerly waiting for. This weekend, we expect the film to open as big as any other Hindi blockbuster.”

PVR also issued a statement stating that Avengers: Infinity War is witnessing very strong advance bookings.

“There has been extraordinary buzz around the release of Avengers: Infinity War and we have never before witnessed a phenomenon as such when a Hollywood film created such a frenzy with its advance ticket sales – a testament of Marvel’s ever-expanding fan base,” Kamal Gianchandani, CEO at PVR Ltd, said in a statement.

INOX further confirmed that ticket sales crossed 40,000 within hours. “Avengers: Infinity War has a potential of creating a new box office record and we are expecting it will do over 200 crores NBOC India. We opened advance bookings for the movie on Sunday morning and sold over 40k tickets by 7.00 pm, which is highest ever for any Hollywood movie and second highest advance of all time after Baahubali 2. The advance booking response overall has been outstanding across all INOX multiplexes. We are expecting very good numbers across INOX multiplexes and definitely biggest opening for any Hollywood film in India,” Rajendra Singh Jyala, Chief Programming Officer at INOX Leisure Limited, said in another statement.

Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of all that happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the past decade, starting with Iron Man. The film stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chadwick Boseman, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland and Chris Pratt among others. It is set to release in India on April 27.
