RTO, traffic dept plans awareness drive in city

Thane: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the traffic department have plans to conduct various seminars, workshops and even awareness drives regarding road safety with an intention to alert citizens to follow the traffic rules.
There was an inauguration program on Monday of this 29th awareness drive conducted by both the departments wherein they discussed about the various programs which they will be organising for the for the next two weeks.

“We are going to conduct seminars for various drivers, not only informing them about the traffic rules but would also has a discussion about the problems they face. The same will be done with the rickshaw drivers. Those with good records will also be felicitated for being good Samaritan and returning some possession passengers. The rickshaw drivers who have modified their vehicles for the commuters by installing Wi-Fi, water bottles, newspaper rack etc. will also be recognised at the seminars,” said an officer from the Traffic department.

The two departments will also be conducting two separate bike rallies — one from RTO office and other from Viviana mall, wherein some riders will be given kits for participation, which will contain a reflective jacket, whistle etc.

“We will also hold strict checks for the ones switching lanes, not wearing seat belt, speeding etc. where we will not only fine them, but make sure they understand the consequence of their actions, as to how it would lead to accidents,”an officer said.

“We will even have workshops to explain children about the traffic rules as they are the future riders and drivers and also as they will make sure that their parents don’t break the rules. Atraining session will be conducted for drivers and citizens on the usage of basic first aid measure that can be taken in case of accidents. Medical tests will be held for the drivers and even their vehicles will be checked to see if the brakes are proper, headlight emitting proper light, indicators functioning etc.,” said an officer from RTO.
