Iowa Renewable Energy has partnered with a Pennsylvania-based biofuels producer to manufacture and market biodiesel in Washington County.
Lake Erie Biofuels, doing business as HERO BX, announced Tuesday the partnership with IRE, which marks the latest expansion for the Erie, Pa., producer.
HERO BX already has expanded production into Alabama and New Hampshire, Samuel Black III, HERO BX founder and CEO, said in the news release.
“To be operating in Iowa — America’s epicenter for renewable energy — allows HERO BX to operate together with some of the pioneers who helped build this great industry,” Black said in the release.
“Iowa Renewable Energy is thrilled to be partnering with HERO BX and joining their growing national network of biodiesel supply and distribution,” Ron Lutovsky, IRE’s chief operating officer, said in the news release. “HERO’s core values, along with their operations and management team are a great fit with our team at IRE. We will be working closely together to make both companies’ operations more efficient and dynamic.”
IRE was founded in 2005 and owns and operates a 30 million gallon biodiesel refinery.
HERO BX, also founded in 2005, has an annual biodiesel production and distribution of 100 million gallons.
