BROOKFIELD — Youth can sign up for a swim team at the Regional YMCA of Western CT.

The YMCA offers the Mako Swim Club for youth 5 to 18 and the Special Needs Swim Team for athletes of all ages. Triathlon training, water polo and introductory diving are also offered.

“YMCA competitive aquatic programs like swimming and diving teams are the natural progression from Safety Around Water and Y Swim Lessons, encouraging children and teens to continue their love of swimming while providing an ideal environment for cognitive, physical and social-emotional development,” Jason Paige, senior aquatics director for the Regional YMCA of Western CT, said in a release. “Through competitive aquatics programs, participants experience achievement, feel a sense of belonging and build supportive relationships.”

More than 60,000 athletes, 2,100 registered coaches and 5,100 trained officials are part of competitive swimming and diving at the YMCA.

Swimmers and divers compete in the 2018 YMCA Short Course National Championship, 2018 YMCA National Diving Championship, 2018 YMCA Masters National Meet and the 2018 YMCA Long Course National Championship.
