NLCIL chief gets Seva Rathna Award

S.K. Acharya recognised for ‘significant contributions to society’

Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLC India Ltd (NLCIL), has been conferred with the ‘Seva Rathna Award,’ jointly instituted by the Mylai Thiruvalluvar Tamil Sangam (MTS), Nehru Yuvakendra, Government of India, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Sri Sairam Institutions, Chennai, in recognition of ‘significant and long-lasting and excellent contributions to the society.’

Mr. Acharya received the award from Justice S. Mohan, former judge, Supreme Court of India, in the presence of T.N. Vallinayagam, Judge, Lok Adalat, Madras High Court, P. Siva Kumar, scientist of DRDO and K. Bala Raman, DG of National Institute of Wind Energy at a function held in Chennai recently.

Cheyon, secretary, MTS and Sai Prakash Leo Muthu, CEO, Sai Ram Institutions of Technology, Chennai, participated. The event featured the release of the 37th Ariviyal Poonga, a science journal.

Among the initiatives Mr. Acharya has led are the ‘Jal Paryapth,’ a water supply augmentation campaign by desilting and improving storage capacity of water bodies, ‘Jal Dhara,’ which provides drinking water and reverse osmosis units in heritage and pilgrim sites and the ‘Jal Uday’ water harvesting scheme.

Earlier, Mr. Acharya inaugurated the Thiruvalluvar Arivukkalannjiayam Development Centre Complex, a free medical camp and tree plantation at Poonthandalam village.
