Haryana CM approves Rs 64.36 cr for roads

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has approved a sum of over Rs 64.36 crore for the construction and improvement of roads in the state. A spokesman said that a sum of over Rs 62 crore has been approved for the four-lanning on Nizampur Nangal Chaudhary road in district Mahendergarh. Similarly, a sum of Rs 1.87 crore has been approved for the construction of new road from village Mohdpur Ahir to Beri in Nuh district and Rs 47.24 lakh for the construction of a road from Karira to Bharap  in district Mahindergarh.

Happy with end of black gown tradition: Vij

Chandigarh: Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij expressed happiness on the process of adopting traditional Indian attires instead of black gowns during convocation ceremonies in colleges. Vij was speaking as chief guest in the convocation ceremony of Sanatan Dharma College at Ambala Cantt. He also inaugurated solar system installed in the campus of the college. The Minister said that against this tradition, he himself had not gone to his village to receive his degree and wrote a letter to the principal of the college opposing this tradition and requesting him to change it. Today, this system has been replaced with traditional Indian attires in various colleges of Haryana, he added.

 Over 38.39 lakh quintal sugar produced

Chandigarh: The cooperative sugar mills in Haryana have crushed 380.86 lakh quintal of sugarcane and produced over 38.39 lakh quintals of sugar so far during the ongoing crushing season. A spokesman said that cooperative sugar mill Shahabad has so far crushed a maximum of 68.41 lakh quintals of sugarcane and has produced over 7.21 lakh quintals of sugar, followed by cooperative sugar mill Rohtak which has crushed 56.98 lakh quintals of sugarcane, producing over 5.63 lakh quintals of sugar. So far, the average recovery of sugar from cooperative sugar mills has been 10.23 per cent.

Fun activities mark world book day

Chandigarh: White Falcon Publishing, a Chandigarh-based publishing firm organised fun activities at Books n Brew in Sector 16 here to mark the World Book Day. The idea behind organising the event was to inculcate the habit of reading among city youngsters. Navsangeet Kaur, founder of White Falcon Publishing informed, April 23 was designated as the World Book Day by UNESCO in the year 1995 to promote reading and publishing.  The event was attended by around 50 bibliophiles, primarily youngsters.

EESL launches UJALA mobile vans

Chandigarh: A massive campaign for promotion and uptake of LED bulbs under EESL’s (Energy Efficiency Services Limited) UJALA programme was launched by flagging off mobile vans in Chandigarh by UT Finance Secretary, AK Sinha. This flagging off ceremony marks the boost of the “Gram Swaraj Abhiyan” in Chandigarh aiming to promote social harmony and spreading awareness about Government’s pivotal schemes in rural/urban areas. The vans are an innovative publicity mechanism designed to travel across the union territory and spread the message of adoption of advanced energy efficient appliances.   Promotion will be carried out through this UJALA-station-on-wheels and each van will circle one village at least twice, within the proposed time. The vans will be deputed on publicity and LED bulb distribution duty in Chandigarh for at least 8 hours a day till May 5.

TRC’s run and clean drive

Chandigarh: The Run Club (also known as TRC), also known as the red brigade commemorated the Earth Day event. For those who are not familiar, the TRC holds a monthly event called the ‘Run and Clean Drive’ to serve the dual purposes of performing healthy exercise coupled with a cleanliness drive. This time, it was held on April 22 at the Sukhna Lake to mark the Earth Day, with its theme “End Plastic Pollution”. The event was held with the wholehearted support and cooperation of the Municipal Corporation and the administration which provided logistical support.
