Bhopal: Sanitation workers of Hamidia Hospital appointed on one-year contract basis, staged a demonstration against Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner for non-clearance of their Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) at ‘mayor chaupal’ on Monday.
As many as 140 sanitation workers, who were appointed on contract basis on January1,2017 and worked till December 2017, have their 12 months’ EPF pending with the BMC. Mayor Alok Sharma however assured them of quick disbursal of EPF within a week. Raj Kumar Maina said “EPF of 140 employees is still pending and demanding immediate release of the amount, the contractual sanitation workers demonstrated at the mayor chaupal. The mayor called the agitators for meeting at the chaupal and assured them of releasing the payment within a week.”
Meanwhile, residents of Vinoba Bhave Nagar, who were mainly Dalits, staged a demonstration against razing of their houses by the BMC at the chaupal and demanded proper rehabilitation. Corporator of ward no-11, Mewlal Kanarji in a memorandum demanded rehabilitation from the mayor. He said, “The BMC administration razed their houses and it was injustice to the Dalits. There is no housing arrangement for Dalits and therefore, we are demanding that BMC should allot houses to all the affected families.”
