Mining ban: Salve not in favour of filing review petition in SC

PANAJI: Senior lawyer Harish Salve has in his opinion to the state  government  stated that there is less scope for filing a review petition on mining ban in the Supreme Court as it would go to the same bench.

On Sunday, Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma  had received expert opinion from Salve over filing the review petition on the mining ban issue.

He has sent the ‘document’  on the legal opinion to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who has been undergoing treatment in America, for his advice on the way forward.

The state government, which has been in favour of filing a review petition, had sought Salve’s opinion. Sharma told ‘The Navhind Times’  on Monday  that he has already sent the ‘document’ on the legal opinion received from the senior lawyer of the Supreme Court to the Chief Minister.

The Chief Secretary said that he will put Salve’s  opinion  before the CAC after receiving advice from Parrikar.

Sources informed that the government may also seek opinion of the Attorney General of India once the CAC deliberates  the matter upon receiving Parrikar’s advice.

The ‘document’ on the opinion received from other two legal experts is in possession of the state government and now the three-member cabinet advisory committee, which is likely to meet on April 25, will discuss the matter in order to resume the mining operations.
