A 22-year-old Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) aspirant was mowed down by a cluster bus in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar on Saturday evening, the police said on Sunday.

The accident was recorded on a CCTV camera installed at a nearby shop, they added. The footage shows the deceased getting hit by the bus and then dragged for several metres.

Sonu Chaudhary from Mathura had come to the city to take admission in ITI, the police said, adding that he was staying at a relative’s place in Mandawali since the past 20 days.

On Saturday, Chaudhary was standing with his friend at Narwana Road in west Vinod Nagar when he was hit by a cluster bus coming from Mother Dairy and going towards Punjabi Bagh, the police said.

The passers-by including Chaudhary’s friend started shouting but the accused driver did not stop and dragged him for over 200 metres.

Nabbed from spot

A policeman present there ran after the bus and nabbed the driver.

The locals rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

DCP (East) Pankaj Singh said the accused, Sukhpal Singh (49), has been driving the bus for the past two years. The errant driver told the police that he did not stop the vehicle because he was scared that the locals would thrash him. Chaudhary’s father is a farmer in Mathura’s Baajna, the police said.

A case under relevant sections has been registered against the accused and the vehicle has been impounded.

The body was handed over to his family after the post-mortem examination, they added.
