Cadillac’s next all-new vehicle -- the XT6 -- is taking shape and taking to the road for testing. These spy photos indicate the luxury SUV will have a north-south engine and rear-wheel-drive configuration. It’s possibly based on the lightweight architecture of Cadillac’s flagship CT6 sedan. Note the raised area of the hood. That indicates a tall engine, such as Cadillac’s new twin-turbo 4.2-liter V-8, which places the two turbos high on the engine in between the cylinder heads. The three-row SUV could debut as early as November’s Los Angeles Auto Show, with sales starting by mid-2019 as a 2020 model.

With all-wheel drive a certain option, vehicles such as the Range Rover Sport and Audi Q7 would be natural competitors.
