Include differently abled, aged persons in the voters’ list: DM

Presiding over a meeting regarding the electoral rolls for the Lok Sabha elections slated for 2019, the Pauri District Magistrate Sushil Kumar instructed election officer to include the differently abled and aged persons in the voter list for the easily accessible (Sugam) areas.

He directed all the Sub Divisional Magistrates of the district to identify the differently abled persons who had had done commendable work in the assembly constituencies so that such citizens can be nominated as ambassadors. The District Magistrate issued these instructions while chairing the meeting at the Vikas Bhawan in district headquarter Pauri.

District Magistrate Sushil Kumar stressed that every differently-abled persons who has completed 18 years of age must be added to the voter list. He also directed the district social welfare officer to ensure the training of PRD, Asha and Aganwadi workers for facilitating the transportation of the differently-abled voters to the polling centre. He asked the health department to provide wheelchairs, medicines and crutches for the differently-abled persons during the time in question. The paths and ramps at the polling stations should be maintained properly to enable convenient access for the differently abled. The District Magistrate said that about 1,000 differently-abled and old persons had been identified in the district for whom the necessary aids will be provided shortly.

The list of the visually handicapped voters and their mobile phone number should be uploaded in e-district centre, directed the District Magistrate.

Kumar instructed all linear departments to start the preparations for the election to make the process smoother and conveniently accessible for all voters. He directed all the Sub Divisional Magistrates to complete the survey of the differently abled persons in the district along with the other tasks in coordination with the district social welfare officer and other officers concerned by the month of June.

District Assistant election officer Vijay Tiwari, Pauri SDM KS Negi, Lansdowne SDM Kamlesh Mehta, Srinagar SDM Maya Dutt Joshi, Kotdwar SDM Rakesh Tiwari, Police Circle Officer Dhan Singh Tomar and other district level officers were also present in the meeting.
