QFA, Ecuador Sign MoU to Work Together for Football Development

Qatar Football Association (QFA) President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al Thani held wide-ranging talks with the President of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, in the presence of Qatar Ambassador to Ecuador HE Hassan al Malki to develop football in both the countries.

The QFA president later signed an Memorandum of Understanding with Carlos Villacis, the President of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF), to work together on growing and promoting the sport. Also present on the occasion was Ecuador's Minister of Sport, Andrea Sotomayor.

The Ecuadorian president welcome the QFA delegation with a warm speech, highlighting mutual desire of both the nations to promote and develop sports in general and football in particular. The President praised the Qatari leadership for promoting sports at a wider scale in the country and the region as well.

During his speech, Carlos Tenorio's lasting impact at Al Sadd club was widely applauded. Tenorio scored 113 goals for Al Sadd in eight years helping the Doha giants claim five trophies during that period.

The Ecuadorian president also stressed on the importance of developing football and expressed hope that Ecuador would qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar. Ecuador did not qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The QFA president thanked the Ecuadorian president for his warm welcome. The QFA president reiterated that Qatar is committed towards improving the standards of the sport.

Sheikh Hamad also highlighted His Highness the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani's visit to Ecuador in 2013 that paved the way for the flourishing friendship between the two countries since then.

The Ecuadorian sports minister Sotomayor hailed the move to sign the MoU, saying Ecuador and Qatar would stand to benefit from the agreement. Ecuador's Defence Minister Patricio Zambrano Restrepo also attended the signing ceremony.
