Police say a Belle Plaine man died after apparently placing himself intentionally in front of a train early Monday.

Belle Plaine police Chief Kristopher Hudson said Justin L. Wisner, 42 was struck by a Union Pacific train about 12:15 a.m. Monday. He said it appeared Wisner deliberately sat on the tracks as the train approached.

Union Pacific spokeswoman Kristen South said in an email the westbound train struck Wisner near 13th Street. Train traffic resumed after 6 a.m., she added.

Services for Wisner are pending with Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service of Belle Plaine.
