The Walking Dead's eighth season ended like the close of a book, with the story of the war between Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) coming to a definitive resolution. The Alexandria-Hilltop-Kingdom coalition defeated the Saviors with an assist from Eugene's (Josh McDermitt) sabotaged bullets and Rick non-fatally slashed Negan's throat and took him prisoner (he plans to keep Negan in a jail cell to show that there's a new, civilized way of doing things now).

But really, Season 8B was the story of Rick coming to terms with his son Carl's (Chandler Riggs) death and Carl's earlier request to make peace with Negan and work on building a new world governed by compassion rather than violence. Over the course of eight episodes, we watched Rick struggle with this until he finally rediscovered the strength to be kind within him.
