THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state general secretary M T Ramesh here on Monday alleged IS role behind the social media driven hoax hartal, which turned violent in several parts of the state, on April 16.

Addressing a news conference here, Ramesh claimed that posters prepared by a Sri Lanka based pro-IS organisation, Aadhil AX-The Srilankan Social Media Activist-was widely circulated in social media groups in Kerala, demanding justice for the Jammu rape victim.

"The role of this Sri Lankan organisation in the recent genocide in Sri Lanka is out in the open. The social media accounts of this organisation was frozen, following Interpol’s intervention. But Kerala police has not yet attempted any probe to expose SDPI link with this outfit. Government is trying to wound up the investigation by limiting investigation within some WhatsApp groups. Such a move is part of the attempts to topple the case. National Investigating Agency (NIA) should probe the international links of the social media hartal," he said.

Ramesh said BJP would make a formal request to NIA for a thorough probe into the fake hartal and the bitter consequences that followed. "Under the garb of the unannounced hartal, certain forces tried for a second Malabar mutiny. The hoax hartal call and the widespread violence that followed proved how deep the ultra-forces have taken roots in Kerala. Two temples were attacked in Malappuram district alone. Still, some quarters tried to blame RSS in this connection. Even though police denied RSS link in the attacks, there were attempts to spread the false news. There are reports that ultras have even sneaked into some media. Media houses in Kerala should probe into such reports," he said.

According to him, CPM, Congress and Muslim League leaderships should find out how come their party workers too joined hands with the rioters. To a question, he said the role of any Hindu ultra-groups should also be probed.
