Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets

Man of the Match: Jofra Archer

Highlights

23:52(IST)

The Rajasthan Royals have clinched a thriller at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium and beaten the Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets with two deliveries still to be bowled. This after the Mumbai Indians had clinched three quick wickets to change the face of the game in their favour. But it was not the day for Rohit Sharma and co, but rather for the Ajinkya Rahane led team.

23:50(IST)

SIX: That's the game as K Gowtham (33*) sends it flying over the mid-wicket boundary of the fourth delivery of the final over which was bowled by the experienced Hardik Pandya to win the match by 3 wickets.

23:47(IST)

FOUR: Gowtham gets the pressure off his team with a boundary to third man and the Mumbai Indians captain with the bowler have gone into discussion mode. The Royals need 6 runs of 4 balls.

23:46(IST)

WICKET: Another twist in the tale as Hardik Pandya bowls it fast and short and Archer (8) is unable to control the hook shot as the bowler takes the catch of his own bowling. Royals are 158/7 with 5 balls left and 10 runs to win.

23:45(IST)

Big big over from the point of view of the Rajasthan Royals as they take 18 runs of the Bumrah over. Archer and Gowtham are throwing the kitchen sink at the Mumbai bowling and it has paid off for them in the penultimate over which has brought them right back into the game. Royals are 158/6 after 19 overs.

23:39(IST)

Big over here for Rajasthan Royals as K Gowtham manages to take a six and boundary of the Mustafizur's bowling to make that over count for 15 runs. The Royals have a steep climb from here on in and Mumbai looking to tighten the noose. After 18 overs Royals are 140/6.

23:34(IST)

WICKET: Mustafizur Rahman gets his first wicket of the match as Heinrich Klaasen goes for a golden duck. Rahman takes the ball away from the right hander who edged it only for Ishan Kishan to take a good low diving catch. Royals are 125/6 and collapsing at rapid pace.

23:32(IST)

Game changing 17th over by Jasprit Bumrah for the Mumbai Indians. He gave away just one run and sent the dangerous Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler back to the hut in a matter of two deliveries to put the defending champions in the drivers seat at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Just a matter of closing out the game for Mumbai one would assume from here on in.

23:30(IST)

WICKET: Jasprit Bumrah has his tail up and he has struck again and is on a hat-trick now. He has clean bowled Jos Buttler (6) and the Royals are in deep trouble at 125/5.

23:29(IST)

WICKET: The pressure tells on Sanju Samson (52) who tries to accelerate the chase, but a slower delivery by Bumrah sees him caught out in the deep on the leg side by Hardik Pandya.

23:27(IST)

Another tidy over from Krunal Pandya who has bowled out his four overs and gave away only 33 runs totally. His final over cost him 6 runs which now puts the pressure back on the Royals who must score at above 10 an runs in the next four. Boundaries are hard to come by which will start to become a worry now. Royals are 124/3 after 16 overs.

23:24(IST)

FIFTY: Sanju Samson completes another half century. It is his 9th IPL half century and he has been crucial to the Royals batting line-up so far.

23:21(IST)

5 overs left in the chase for the Royals who have Samson at the crease. Hardik Pandya's over, the 15th over, sees 8 runs and the wicket of Ben Stokes. Samson, who is slowly looking for the big shots, and Buttler will have to up the ante from now on in to achieve this chase. Royals are 118/3 after 15 overs.

23:15(IST)

WICKET: Hardik Pandya strikes with the first ball as he comes back into the attack. Full and straight at the base of leg stumps is too much for Ben Stokes (40) who tries to walk over and flick it to fine leg but misses and the woodwork is broken much to his disappointment. Royals are 110/3 after 14.1 overs.

23:14(IST)

Good over for the Royals as Ben Stokes gets another boundary through the off-side of a loose delivery from Mustafizur Rahman. Stokes and Samson have been steadily inching towards the target and playing without risks. Quite like what the doctor would have ordered for the Royals who are 110/2 after 14 overs.

23:11(IST)

STAT ATTACK: 63* between Stokes/Samson - This is RR’s highest 3rd wicket stand this tournament and the second-highest for any wicket.

23:09(IST)

13 overs done in the Rajasthan innings. The Royals have gone past the 100 run mark with the loss of two wickets. Ben Stokes and Sanju Samson are the crease and are slowly but surely ensuring the scoreboard keeps moving so that the pressure at the end isn't too great. They got 5 runs of Bumrah's over and are at 101/2 after 13 overs.

23:04(IST)

The Mumbai Indians bowlers have definitely dried up the boundaries for Stokes and Samson who are being forced to run more runs as a result. Krunal Pandya's over produced 10 runs as neither batsmen were afforded a chance to free their arms and have a hit. Royals are 96/2 after 12 overs with Ben Stokes and Samson well and truly set.

22:59(IST)

End of the 11th over, where Ben Stokes suddenly freed his arms a bit and hammered 10 runs of the last two balls of McClenaghan's over to make that a big 16 run over. The Royals are presumably looking to add some pace and life to the chase. Royals are 86/2 after 11 overs.

22:58(IST)

SIX: First six of the Rajasthan Royals innings comes as Ben Stokes waits an eternity before swatting away the slow bouncer for a six. That was the 65th delivery of the innings.

22:55(IST)

Hardik Pandya has a go now with the ball and gives away only 7 runs off his first over. Samson and Stokes have yet to break free and put their foot on the accelerator. Both batsmen happy to pick up the singles and twos so far. Royals are 70/2 after 10 overs.

22:48(IST)

Very tidy over from the young leg spinner Mayank Markande as he gives away only 5 runs of the 9th over. The Royals' chase has not taken off with any great pace, but they do have wickets in hand which is crucial in the case of chase. After 9 overs Royals are 63/2.

22:46(IST)

Interestingly, Rajasthan Royals are yet to hit a maximum after 8 overs whereas the Mumbai Indians took 13 balls to get of the mark on that count.

22:43(IST)

Mustafizur bowls another tight over and concedes only 5 runs. Mumbai did lose their review on the LBW with Ben Stokes but the tight over does keep things in check so far. Stokes needs a big innings and he looks determined while Samson is striking the ball cleanly. Royals after 8 overs are 58/2.

22:40(IST)

The Mumbai Indians really want to break this partnership between Stokes and Samson as they took a rather surprising LBW review where the batsman was out of his crease and hit above the knee roll. Mumbai lost the review. Rohit Sharma clearly wants a third wicket fast.

22:36(IST)

Rohit Sharma has brought in the rookie Mayank Markande who's leg spin was expected to trouble the new man Ben Stokes. But the Englishman has handled him well in the first over. Stokes and Samson helped themselves to 10 runs including a boundary. Once again both batsmen are being watchful and they seem to be making an effort to play without risks.

22:33(IST)

End of the power play with McClenaghan's over in which the Royals lost their captain after some smart bowling by the Kiwi. McClenaghan gave away only 6 runs in the over as Samson hit another boundary to ensure the scoreboard keeps ticking at a decent pace. Ben Stokes is the other batsman at the crease. Royals are 43/2 after 6 overs.

22:29(IST)

WICKET: Ajinkya Rahane (14) tries to get the short ball over mid-wicket for a boundary, but McClenaghan's slower ball does not suit the shot. Krunal Pandya takes an easy catch as Mumbai get their second wicket. Royals are 38/2 in the 6th over.

22:27(IST)

Krunal Pandya's second over goes for 9 runs without any success in terms of wickets. Rahane and Samson play out the over watchfully and wait for the bad ball to capitalise and get the boundary. This time it was Rahane who found the boundary with a crisp drive through the off-side. Rajasthan are 36/1 after 5 overs.

22:23(IST)

Mustafizur Rahman takes the fourth over where he started well with a couple of dot balls to Samson, before the in-form batsman punished a bad ball and sent it flying through the covers for a boundary. Rahman though did not face much more as he restricted Samson and Rahane to 6 runs in the over. Royals are 27/1 after 4 overs.

IPL, RR vs MI in Jaipur Highlights: Rajasthan Post Win Against Mumbai

PREVIEW: Rajasthan Royals will aim to bounce back after suffering two consecutive losses, while Mumbai Indians will be in search of their second win when they face-off in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Sunday. With two wins and three defeats, Rajasthan are placed fifth with four points, while Mumbai are sixth with one win in four games. But the good thing for Mumbai is that their sole win came in their last match -- a 46-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday. Hence, Rajasthan have a lot to worry about. Rajasthan started their IPL 2018 campaign on a poor note, hammered by Sunrisers Hyderabad by 9 wickets. They however, gained momentum and registered two back-to-back wins against Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Later, Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings outclassed them by seven wickets and 64 runs respectively. The live telecast of the IPL 2018 match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians will start at 8 PM on April 22th (Sunday). Today’s IPL live match can be seen on the Star Sports network and IPL online free live streaming will be available on hotstar.com and Jio app. You can also follow our live blog for ball-by-ball updates and analysis on cricketnext.com.
In the past two matches, neither Rajasthan's batsmen nor their bowlers have delivered. Against KKR, they could only post 160 and allowed the visitors to chase down the target with ease. Against CSK, Rajasthan bowlers were taken to cleaners by veteran Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, who blasted a 106 off 57 deliveries. Rajasthan then were bowled out for 140, with no one, barring Ben Stokes (45) offering any resistance. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane has looked good but has not been converting good starts into big scores. Sanju Samson, Stokes and Rahul Tripathi have been inconsistent.
Rajasthan's bowlers -- K. Gowtham and Ben Laughlin -- have performed well while leggie Shreays Gopal has also been economical. But they have not performed well together in a single match. Jaydev Unadkat also needs to raise his level to live to the expectations of the franchise. The visiting side at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Mumbai lost all the first three matches. First, against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the season opener, then to Sunrisers Hyderabad and to Delhi Daredevils before overcoming RCB with a supreme batting show. Rohit Sharma (94 off 52) and West Indian Ervin Lewis (65) powered Mumbai to 213. Mumbai then restricted RCB to 167 as Virat Kohli's magnificent 92 went in vain. In the upcoming match, they will hope that the win will begin a seies of good days as Mumbai lost the two of their encounters in the last over. Mumbai bowlers Mustafizur Rehman, Jasprit Bumrah, Mayank Markande and Krunal Pandya did well to contain a heavy-batting side like RCB and will aim to repeat the good work against Rajasthan.
