WA woman, 31, faces extortion charges over dating website hook-up

A young woman has been charged with making several threats of extortion and drug related offences after meeting an older man on a dating website.

South Hedland detectives said the woman, 31, had extorted thousands of dollars from the man, aged in his 50s.

The pair had developed a relationship after meeting on a dating website in early January this year.

Police said the woman used two aliases and started texting the man in late January, demanding money.

The man allegedly gave the woman more than $6000 over a course of six weeks.

The woman has been charged with six threats with intent to extort, possession of methylamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She will appear in the South Hedland Magistrates Court on April 23.
