Dennis F. Conger

Dennis F. Conger, 77, passed away on April 19, 2018, at his home.
His family will gather with friends at 1 p.m. on Friday,  at the Carlson Colonial Chapel for his memorial service and gathering.  
Dennis was born on April 20, 1940 in Elkhart, Kan., the son of Floyd and Emma (Myers) Conger.  Dennis was a graduate of Wichita State University with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He was united in marriage to the former Karen Lugard on Jan. 25, 1964 at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Wichita.  Dennis was a band director in several Kansas schools including, El Dorado, Circle Schools, Haysville, Hugoton, and Belle Plaine.  He loved music and teaching his students and seeing them grow and excel at music.  Dennis spent his summer breaks working at Dillard’s in the menswear department and was always a sharp dresser.  His passion and hobby after retirement was scroll saw woodworking and he created beautiful pieces out of poplar, oak and walnut that he shared with family and friends.  Dennis’s backyard was full of hummingbirds and he enjoyed watching them at the feeders and flying. He enjoyed music all of his life and playing his piano and organ.
 Dennis’s great joy was his family.  Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, Karen of Andover; children, Kandi Jones of Augusta, Brandon (Tina) Conger of Andover, and Justin (Sally) Conger of Wichita; grandchildren, Dakota and Colby Jones, Jace, Madison and Maizy Conger; sister, Arletta Shores of Guymon, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.  
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Lavake; and brother, Charles Conger.
