Agencies are planning to enlist local-based landlords to provide housing that is more affordable for all involved at the new Landlord Fest event that is approaching soon.
The event will feature speakers, exhibitors and other information intended to encourage landlords to make their properties more tenable for tenets who may be low-income, have bad credit or otherwise face hurdles to finding housing, said Rebecca Vinroot, James City social services director.
“We want people to ask questions and think about it. We always need landlords,” Vinroot said.
James City Social Services and the Greater Virginia Peninsula Homelessness Consortium will jointly hold the event at James City County Recreation Center. The event will feature speakers and exhibitors from local housing agencies, including United Way, the Salvation Army and the Avalon Center.
Landlords will have an opportunity to network with these groups and learn about affordable housing programs. While similar events have been held elsewhere on the Peninsula, this upcoming event will be the first time it’s been held in the Williamsburg area, Vinroot said.
“We’re trying to widen our pool,” Vinroot said, adding that any interested landlords with property on the Peninsula can attend. Vinroot aims to recruit 50 landlords.
