Man murdered by son-in-law

He wanted case against him to be withdrawn; on the run

A 47-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his 27-year-old on-in-law in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar on Sunday afternoon, the police said.

Domestic violence

Neeraj Kumar, who is accused of domestic violence by his wife, is absconding, they added. Victim Prabhu Dayal was attacked inside his residence at 3 p.m., Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Kumar Singh said.

Dayal, who sustained a single stab wound in the chest, was declared brought dead at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, the police said, adding that a case of murder has been registered.

His eldest daughter Rakhi worked in a travel agency when she met Kumar, a taxi driver for a news channel. The duo got married in December 2016 against the wishes of their parents.

Soon, they started fighting regularly. On March 28, Ms. Rakhi returned to her father’s house. Following this, she lodged a case of domestic violence against Kumar.

On Sunday, the accused went to his in-laws’ residence in Shashi Garden and knocked on the door. He was carrying a knife, the police said. The moment Dayal opened the door, Kumar stabbed him and fled the spot. Ms. Rakhi told the police that Kumar often forced them to withdraw the complaint. He had also threatened her father repeatedly, she alleged.

CCTV footage

The police have collected CCTV footage and questioned Kumar’s family and friends about his whereabouts.
