HYDERABAD: The KCR government’s Rs 50,000-crore flagship Mission Bhagiratha project has run into rough weather with farmers damaging pipelines to divert drinking water to irrigate agricultural fields. And the illegal tapping of Bhagiratha water in Medak and several other districts has left officials jolted.
The chief minister had declared on multiple occasions he won’t seek votes if his government failed to supply safe piped drinking water to every household before 2019 elections.

Enquiries by TOI revealed though the government extended 24x7 free power to farmers, many are pilfering Bhagiratha water to irrigate fields due to depleted groundwater.
