Madie Rhoads and Kayley Scott combined to throw back-to-back shutouts, and fourth-ranked Randolph-Macon swept host Randolph 5-0 and 6-0 Monday at WildCat Stadium to close the regular-season schedule.

RC (14-21) and R-MC (37-3) will meet again at 2 p.m. Friday in the opening round of the ODAC tournament at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem. The Yellow Jackets are the No. 2 seed, while the WildCats fell to the seventh seed after losing Monday’s doubleheader.

Rhoads scattered two hits and struck out seven in the opener, and R-MC scored all five of its runs in the seventh inning.

Four of R-MC’s six runs in the nightcap came in the fourth inning to back Scott’s 10-strikeout performance.

Liberty duo earn Big South honors

Liberty junior pitcher Julia DiMartino and sophomore second baseman Autumn Bishop were named the Big South Conference pitcher and player of the week, respectively.

DiMartino recorded three of the Flames’ four victories last week and extended her shutout streak to 28 2/3 innings. The Brockport, New York, native leads the Big South in eight statistical categories.

Bishop hit three homers and drove in four runs last week.

BASEBALL

Winthrop’s Peek honored again

Winthrop sophomore Zach Peek was named the Big South’s starting pitcher of the week for the third time this season.

The former Jefferson Forest standout threw eight shutout innings this past Saturday against UNC Asheville. He struck out five and leads the Big South with 75 strikeouts this season.

MEN’S LACROSSE

Randolph 15, Averett 3

In their penultimate game, the host WildCats used their best offensive performance of the season to come away with a nonconference win over Averett.

Randolph (1-15) earned its first victory thanks to eight first-half goals. The WildCats outscored the Cougars 7-3 in the third quarter, and neither team found the back of the net in the final period.

Gage Tutko had five goals, Kadri Hearns had two goals and three assists, and Brett Pausic contributed a goal and six assists for Randolph.

Keshawn Down scored two goals for Averett, which wrapped up its first season Monday at 0-11.

MEN’S GOLF

LC finishes eighth in ODAC Championship

In Browns Summit, North Carolina, Lynchburg shot a two-day, three-round total of 91-over par 955 and finished 92 shots behind ODAC champion Guilford at Bryan Park Champions Course.

The 54-hole tournament was condensed to two days because of the threat of inclement weather.

Guilford shot 1 under and finished 33 shots ahead of second-place Washington & Lee.

Hampden-Sydney’s Bruce Shober (Appomattox) finished fifth overall at 2 over. LC’s Josh Irby finished 18th.

SBC finishes last in ODAC Championship

In Browns Summit, North Carolina, Sweet Briar posted a three-round total of 621-over par and was 564 shots behind runaway winner Washington and Lee at Bryan Park Champions Course.

The 54-hole tournament was condensed to two days because of the threat of inclement weather.

SBC’s Rebecca Parrish was the highest finishing Vixen in 26th at 125 over.

W&L won by 58 strokes over Bridgewater.
