IOWA CITY — Two Cedar Rapids men face rioting charges after police say they were involved in a fight in downtown Iowa City.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, officers responded at a little before 2 a.m. Sunday to the Pedestrian Mall near Union Bar for reports of a fight in progress.
While several suspects fled the area when police arrived, surveillance video footage showed multiple individuals — including Kordell M. Jones and Jordan A. Mease, both of Cedar Rapids — striking multiple people, including punching and kicking a victim on the ground, according to police.
After the altercation, both Jones and Mease — both 19 years old — were located downtown and, when approached by police, fled on foot before stopping.
Both have been charged with an aggravated misdemeanor for participating a riot and a simple misdemeanor for public intoxication. Mease also faces a simple misdemeanor for interference with official acts.
