District Collector S. Karthikeyan on Sunday visited coastal areas of the district that were experiencing sea fury.

He visited Anchuthengu, Poothura, and Valiathura areas, and reviewed the situation.

The Collector also visited the relief camps where families affected by the raging sea had been rehabilitated. At Anchuthengu, a camp has been opened at the St. Joseph School, and at a Buds school at Adimalathura.

Review of facilities

The Collector reviewed the camp facilities at Anchuthengu where 15 families have been accommodated. He also talked to the local people.

Dr. Karthikeyan said tahsildars had been instructed to open up camps wherever needed and provide all facilities.

Funds were not a constraint, and the Sub-Collector was in charge of all the camps.

Complaints

About the complaints of the camp inhabitants at the Valiathura UP School, he said Corporation officials had been instructed to get the toilets ready. Corporation health officials would also be asked to visit the entire camp in the wake of complaints of rat infestation.

About housing for the families living at the camp, he said that the structures were ready, and work for electrification and water connection had been tendered.

The State government was keen on inaugurating the houses by May end.
