Paradip TU leader joins BJD meet on Mahanadi

Paradip: Prominent trade union leader Santosh Kumar Patnaik joined the workshop on “Mahanadi Pain Mahasangram” at the BJD head office in Bhubaneswar on Sunday along with Jagatsinghpur district BJD president and State Planning Board Deputy Chairman Bishnu Das. Santosh Patnaik told reporters that he is a dedicated follower of BJD supremo and CM Naveen Patnaik and his party. All BJD programmes are followed by all the organisations headed by him in the Paradip Assembly constituency. Patnaik is the leader of 10 mega organisations of the Paradip area.

PPT undertakes Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Paradip: The Paradip Port Trust (PPT) conducted a special cleaning drive at the Creek Side here on Sunday. Led by PPT Chairman Rinkesh Roy, PPT’s various departments, in association with the Paradip Municipality and the Paradip Sakshyrata Samity cleared the wild vegetation, garbage floating in the creek and removed the footpath non-biodegradable waste along the stretch leading from Mausima Chowk to Smruti Udyan under the Swachh Bharat campaign. Several local citizens also participated in the cleaning drive. The PPT has made a year-long schedule to undertake cleanliness in and around Paradip every first and third Saturday every month. 

BJD holds demo in front of banks in Nimapara

Nimapara: The Nimapara BJD unit on Saturday held agitation before nationalised banks here and other parts of the Nimapara area protesting against the cash crunch in banks and ATMs. Party members said that after demonetisation the general public has been suffering due to monetary crisis. Among others, block BJD working president Ashok Sahoo, former Chairman Pradipta Khatoi, Jibanananda Mohapatra, Santosh Ojha and Balakrushna Ojha were present. At Charichhak, Sudhiranjan Dash, Avimanyu Panda, Mahendra Mohapatra, Adhika Patra and Rachi Khatoi held picketing shouting slogans against the Central Government’s mismanagement of monetary policy.

‘False’ charge made against paper agency owner

Nimapara: Sukant Kar running Jagannath Paper Agency at the Nimapara bus-stand since 30 years has been mischarged by a hawker, Tofan Bhoi’s wife after Bhoi was told to pay an arrear of Rs one lakh towards his paper hawking money. Bhoi was repeatedly asked to pay the amount. When Bhoi refused to pay, finding no way to get back the money, Kar lodged an FIR against Bhoi at the Nimapara police station. To take revenge, Tofan's wife after several days made allegedly baseless complaints at the Nimapara PS and with other authorities against Kar. The Nimapara Journalists’ Association has refuted the allegations made against Kar and has demanded proper enquiry into the matter.

Earth Day observed in Balangir

Balangir: The Earth Day was observed here on Sunday with youths taking out a rally going through the town. On the occasion, Friends for Human Development, (FHD) India director Bilhan Sagar urged the youths to reduce the use of plastic. He also administered a pledge to protect mother earth and environment.
