Holly Littlecrow told police she watched Gabriel Faucher push and hit her mother at least five times before telling her to, "Give me your best shot."

The eight-year-old girl's interview, recorded the day her mother Beverly Littlecrow died, was played in Saskatoon Court of Queen's Bench Monday on the first day of Faucher's manslaughter trial.

Faucher is accused of killing Littlecrow on January 24, 2016 in the town of Kinley, just west of Saskatoon. He is being tried by Justice Gary Meschishnick.

Police interviewed Holly Littlecrow twice, once hours after her mother died and then again about a month later. Justice Gary Meschishnick played both interviews in Court of Queen's Bench today.

Meschishnick ruled that the the little girl's testimony was admissible evidence. She will be examined by prosecutor Mitch Piche and defence lawyer Andrew Mason on Tuesday.

The recorded interviews focused on a three-day span leading up to, and including, the day that Littlecrow died.

The trial is scheduled to run 10 days.
