India's crude steel output to soar by 38% to 140 million tonnes in 2018

According to global steel body Worldsteel, China occupies the top global position as far as steel production is concerned

India's output is expected to soar by 38 per cent to 140 million tonnes (MT) by the end of this year, Chaudhary said.

Under the Policy (NSP), the government has set a production target of 300 MT by 2030-31.

The NSP also aims at more than doubling the per consumption to 158 kg by 2030-31, from 70 kg at present.
