2 men who looted Rs 2 cr to pay debts, live lavishly held

Two men have been arrested by the Delhi Police for their involvement in a sensational midnight heist of more than Rs 2 crore at West Delhi's Kirti Nagar area. Police said one of the accused, Jasbir is a member of the Neeraj Bawana gang. The two in connivance with the office staff of the victim hatched a plan to steal the cash to pay their debts and lead a lavish lifestyle.

Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, West said, “Daljeet (39), the mastermind of the heist along with his accomplice, Jasbir broke into the house of the victim with the assistance of his former employee and decamped with Rs 10 lakh and foreign currency of more than Rs 2 crore.”

 Daljeet, who worked at an Arches shop told police that he wanted to get rid of the debts due to which he planned to commit theft.

Kumar said, “On April 13, Rakesh Godara, a businessman based in Saraswati Garden reported about the theft of Rs 10 lakh and some foreign currency. Since the day of the theft, Godara's office staffer, Rattan was missing, he suspected his role in the theft.”

A team under SHO Anil Kumar Sharma questioned more than 100 persons close to the complainant, his office staff.

The DCP said, “Godara told us that one of his colleagues, Lovely told him that on the night of April 12, Rattan came to him asking for shelter at Godara's house. Since Godara was away at work in Kota, Lovely allowed Rattan to stay at Godara's house. The arrested accused revealed that as part of the plan, Rattan offered drinks laced with sedatives to the house help at Godara's residence and later at night, Rattan facilitated Daljeet and Jasbir to enter the house. Rattan guided them to the place with Rs. 10 Lacks 30 thousand and some foreign currency. Both the accused decamped with the bag and Rattan pretended to be unaware of the theft. Initially, Godara first tried at his own to search the accused persons with the help of his employees and village contacts but when he failed, he approached the police.”

 The DCP further said, “More than 100 persons were questioned. Raids were conducted at Sirsa, Chandigarh, Mohali, National Capital Region, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra to trace the accused. Since they kept changing their locations, it was difficult to track them.

Police said that based on a tip off, we managed to arrest Daljeet from Haus Khas. He informed us that the plan to was steal Rs 50 lakhs and they had decided to flee to Bangkok to avoid getting caught.

“Eventually, Jasbir was nabbed from Nanded in Maharashtra and 2,42,500 Euros (Rs 1 crore, 80 lakhs) were recovered from his possession. At his instance, raids were conducted in and around Delhi and  33,27000 INR worth Foreign Currency, 94127/- INR and 6 mobile phones worth Rs 1 Lakh were recovered from their various hideouts,” added the DCP.
