Similar action also initiated against some quacks in Sambhal : SIC

State Information Commissioner (SIC) Hafiz Usman’s directives on tightening the nose on quacks working in western UP has yielded results. 

After action against quacks and nursing homes in Moradabad and Bijnore, the SIC said that similar action was also initiated against some quacks in Sambhal. A cash fine was imposed on the Chief Medical Officer of the district for delayed reply on action taken.

Usman said on Saturday that a social activist filed an RTI application with the CMO office in Sambhal last year seeking to know about action taken by the department against quacks running clinics or working in private nursing homes. 

The activists also named quacks like Dr Tushar Rai, Dr Deepu Rai, Dr Jagdish Rai, Dr Pranav Mukherjee etc, running clinics in Gunnaur area of Sambhal. 

He said that after the CMO did not reply, the activists filed an appeal in the SIC’s court. After this officer concerned were sumoned by the SIC and directed to reply in this regard. Even then, the SIC’s directions were ignored after which t he SIC imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the CMO of Sambhal and warned her to immediately provide details of action taken or be ready to face action. 

Soon after his warning, CMO of Sambhal, Dr Amita Singh appeared in the SIC court and apprised him of proceedings under guidelines issued by Medical Council of India (MCI) against the quacks. She also informed that criminal cases were also registered and their clinics were sealed by the department.

Earlier similar action was taken by the SIC in Moradabad and Bijnore. The CMO of Bijnore RK Saksena  appeared in the SIC’s court and informed that a crack down was launched against quacks and beside sealing clinics, 20 quacks were nabbed anm criminal cases were registered against them. 

Similarly in Moradabad, CMO Dr Prakash Chandra told the SIC that a crackdown was launched against quacks running clinics in the city and cases were registered against 52 with different police stations in Moradabad.
