Antiques Roadshow: Royal fans STUNNED by surprise Queen Victoria revelation
ANTIQUES ROADSHOW returned to Castle Howard in North Yorkshire for a classic episode this evening, but royal fans were left stunned by a hilarious Queen Victoria revelation.
Antiques Roadshow expert Lennox Cato was joined by a collector who had brought along a “royal throne”.
The collector had been told that Queen Victoria had sat in the chair, before it was sold to her mother-in-law at auction for just £5.
Expert Lennox asked: “So you brought this chair in from the pub?”
The collector replied: “We have. My husband’s mum bought it in the 1950s in London at auction for £5.
“Supposedly Queen Victoria sat in it, and that’s all we know.”
Lennox then revealed further details about the piece.
He said: “Made of oak in Gothic fashion, it was in a shop in Baker Street.
“The Baker Street Bazaar. This was a shop owned by TC Druce.”
As the collector looked excited by the details, the next piece of information came as a shock.
Lennox continued: “Thomas Charles Druce had this building and at the very top of this building was a famous waxworks.

“This famous waxworks, we all know the name of, could have been used in that building as a prop.”
In hysterics, the collector laughed: “Oh, okay! So she has sat in the chair, but in the form of wax.”
Lennox smiled: “Possibly!” prompting the collector to chuckle: “Perfect! Brilliant!”
The expert then said: “It’s worth £1,200.”
Tweeting from the official show account, Antiques Roadshow asked: “Did Queen Victorian sit on this throne? #AntiquesRoadshow furniture expert @LennoxCato is the man to find out @BBCOne.”

After Lennox’s revelation, they tried to get in touch with Madame Tussauds London.
They posted: “Well, not quite a royal chair but could @TussaudsLondon help us discover if this gothic oak throne from the Baker Street Bazaar was ever one of their props? #AntiquesRoadshow.”
Fans of the show instantly took to social media, with one viewer tweeting: “I doubt very much that Queen Victoria parked her a**e on that chair! #AntiquesRoadshow.”
“People need to work on their 'gosh wows' because frankly I've not been convinced by any so far. #AntiquesRoadshow,” teased another.
A third gushed: “I looooove this chair #antiquesroadshow.”
“Oh my god, I have heard it all now. Supposedly Queen Victoria sat on it. #antiquesroadshow,” huffed another.
Antiques Roadshow continues next Sunday on BBC One at 8pm.
