10 arrested with rare Pangolin in Varanasi

VARANASI: STF's local unit on Sunday succeeded in nabbing 10 smugglers with a rare wild animal Pangolin from a hotel in Sigra area.
According to STF, on tip off, a team raided a hotel in Sigra area where smugglers were busy in finalising the deal of Pangolin. This animal is in schedule-1 and it is a rare species

The arrested persons are from Sonebhadra, Varanasi and Bihar. They had caught Pangolin from the forests of Pannuganj in Sonbhadra district. This animal is found in forests of 14 states in India. In January a Pangolin was recovered in Bala ghat of Madhya Pradesh.

This animal is in high demand in South Asian countries for medicinal uses and fashion garments.
