Two men were arrested Saturday in Amherst County for allegedly stealing from victims of the tornado that tore through the Lynchburg region on April 15, damaging numerous homes.
According to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, Stephen Brock Wells, 23, and Joshua Hugh Woodward, 34, both of Ruckersville were charged with grand larceny, trespassing, destruction of property. According to the Amherst County Adult Detention Center website, both men were booked into jail on Saturday, where they remained as of Sunday night. Both men were denied bond.
According to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, the men were arrested after complaints Saturday about property theft from storm victims in the Nottoway Drive neighborhood.
In a social media post, the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office encouraged residents who aren’t staying in storm damaged homes to remove or secure belongings they intend to keep, and to place no trespassing signs to help deputies catch anyone stealing from vacated properties.
