VCU’s offense was as slow-burning as it gets on Sunday, waiting 12 innings to score the game’s only run in walk-off fashion at The Diamond to send George Mason home with a 1-0 loss.
The run came on a single to left field by Paul Witt. Teammate Haiden Lamb shouldn’t have made it home, but an error from the Patriots allowed him to reach home plate and end the game.
Pitchers Sam Ryan, Benjamin Dum and Mac McCarty combined for the shutout for the Rams. McCarty, the team’s closer, got his first win of the season, allowing one hit in the game’s three extra innings.

Five Spiders had an RBI in the third inning, with Anthony Forte’s two-run triple doing the most damage. Sage Bruhl also had two RBIs earlier in the inning on a single, while Kyle Schmidt went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs in the game.
Robbie Baker pitched the first five innings to earn the win, while Layne Looney shut out the Wildcats through the final three innings to get his sixth save of the year.

Notre Dame 6, Virginia Tech 5: A late rally in the top of the ninth inning wasn’t enough for the visiting Hokies, who fell by one run to the Fighting Irish for the second consecutive day.
The Hokies, who haven’t won an ACC road series since 2014, built a 3-2 lead in the third inning when Zach Kokoska, Tom Stoffel and Luke Horanski each hit RBI singles. But the lead was relinquished in the fifth inning, when Tech’s Nic Enright (Steward) allowed three runs and got just two outs before being pulled from the mound.
