Today is Earth Day. The day is celebrated worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The day was proposed at the UNESCO conference in 1969 and the first Earth Day celebrations took place in 1970. The campaign theme for this year is End Plastic Pollution. In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on people to reaffirm the commitment towards creating a better planet for the future generations. The Prime Minister urged people to work together to mitigate the menace of climate change. He said, it will be a great tribute to the beloved Mother Earth. Mr Modi complimented all the individuals and organisations who are working towards promoting harmony with nature and ensuring sustainable development. In a tweet, Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Dr Harsh Vardhan said, Earth is the only planet in the universe where life is possible. He called on people to save the earth and save natural assets to keep life going on in the earth. He asked people no to be be selfish as what they have are all given by the nature and they are only the custodians.
