All of the world’s biggest names in snooker meet in Sheffield with a packed field of 32 stars vying to win the prestigious event.
Mark Selby - the defending champion - suffered a surprise defeat in the first round against Joe Perry.
Selby was looking to win a third consecutive World Snooker Championship, but he lost 10-4 to 22nd seed Perry.
Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump and John Higgins are all being backed by punters with the bookies to win.
O’Sullivan even reckons Higgins is the favourite if he plays his best snooker.
“Every snooker player on the circuit knows he’s the most complete player,” he told the Daily Mail.
“And when he’s on, he’s virtually unplayable.
“He’s got such a great game.
“If John Higgins finds it, every player is going to say, ’You don’t want to play him.’”
And there’s plenty to play for with the winner pocketing a cool £425,000.
