Woman arrested after speaking with police about Petrie shooting investigation
A 19-year-old woman has been arrested as part of a police investigation into the death of a 24-year-old man in Petrie on Friday.
The woman voluntarily attended a police station on Sunday afternoon.
After speaking with police, she was arrested.
Earlier, police were searching for a woman believed to be a witness to the shooting death of Jacob Bell, who died after being shot in the chest at a unit north of Brisbane on Friday.
Despite speaking with people who were inside the Petrie unit and nearby when the shooting occurred, detectives had identified a witness who had not yet given her version of events.
Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming said the investigation was ongoing and the woman was being treated as a witness rather than a suspect.
"We believe this young lady was present in the vicinity at about the time of the shooting," he said.
"We're calling on her to make herself known to police, we'd like to hear her side of the story and what she may know in respect of this tragic event.
"Also, anyone who recognises her and may know her whereabouts at the moment, we would like to hear from them.
"There's a number of people who were presumably quite shocked by the event and it's taken us a little bit of time to find them.
"But they've proven quite co-operative with us in the investigation and provided useful statements to us to help us understand what happened.
"This young lady we believe may be able to help us understand a little bit more and we're certainly interested in this side of the story."
Detective Superintendent Fleming also revealed police believe a rifle was the weapon used to shoot Mr Bell once in the chest.
He said police were examining a number of items seized as evidence in the investigation, so could not say whether detectives had the weapon used in the crime in their possession.
A knife was also found in the vicinity of the crime scene, but police believe it was not related.
Luke Cunningham, a 21-year-old man from Nundah, has been charged with murder as well as entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence.
Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming told Fairfax Media on Friday night that the victim and alleged shooter were known to each other.
Tributes have flowed on social media for Mr Bell, who was shot inside the Young Street unit just after midnight on Friday and later died in hospital from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
"Jacob Bell, you were a beautiful soul," Amanda Clinch said.
"I'm going to miss you, especially your sense of humor (sic) ... I only got the pleasure of knowing you a short time, but knowing you was worth everything.
"You always made me smile even though we had our disagreements but that's how I knew we had an awesome friendship. I'm missing you like crazy."
"Going to miss the early morning phone calls to let you in so you could eat and sleep," Kayla Sheppard posted.
"Rip brother ... we never really die ... until we meet again, rest easy," Trento Underdown wrote.
"I used to have mad water bomb fights with this guy when I was 10. (I'm) shocked," Jamie Rundle said.
