Farmer commits suicide in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: A farmer allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train near Jaspaloon area of Doraha on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Santokh Singh of Barmalipur in Payal town.
Government Railway Police (GRP) Officials said they received information about a body lying on the railway tracks near Gurudwara Sahib, about six kilometer from Doraha.

They added that, one Kashmira Singh, the brother of the deceased, identified the body.

GRP post in-charge, Jagtinder Singh said that the family of the deceased said that Singh was upset after the demise of his wife some 6-7 years ago. Singh left home early in the morning after spending some time with his grandchildren.

The GRP officer said that Singh's body has been handed over to his family after the post-mortem at Civil Hospital Khanna. He added that police later initiated inquest proceedings under section 174 of CRPC into the matter.
