Threats of a bomb at Fort Myers High School on Monday prompted a letter from the school's principal on Sunday to parents, students and staff and the promise of increased law enforcement presence at the school.

A text chain circulating among school students earlier Sunday alluded to a "gang bomb threat" and urged students to go to a local church instead. It also prompted questions from some students asking if they should go to school.

In an email Sunday, Fort Myers High School Principal David LaRosa said some teachers at the school had received an email from an unnamed person saying she would bring a bomb to school Monday.

The email, from a person identifying themselves as "DJ sister Tip", warned that school be called off.

An investigation by the Lee County Sheriff's Office found no credible threat, LaRosa said. He said a check of the school by law enforcement found nothing suspicious.

Extra security will be at the high school campus on Monday, LaRosa added.

Lee County School District  spokesman Rob Spicker referred questions to the sheriff's office due to it being an active investigation.

A sheriff's office public information specialist, Tiffany Wood, confirmed the investigation and the extra security.

"We have been investigating this since Friday and the investigation is on-going and at this point (the threat) doesn’t appear credible," Wood said. "We are taking the necessary-precautions to insure the campus is safe and secure for student arrival Monday morning. We’ll have additional uniform support tomorrow morning to answer any questions parents and students may have."

Notice from Fort  Myers High School Principal David LaRosa:

Good evening Fort Myers High School Families, this is Principal David LaRosa.

I wanted to let you know that some FMHS teachers received an email from someone unknown to us stating that she would bring a bomb to the school tomorrow.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and does not believe the threat has any credibility. School Administration and Law Enforcement have been at the school and found nothing suspicious. In an abundance of caution we will have extra security on campus tomorrow.

I want to assure you, we take every type of threat seriously to ensure the security and well-being of students and staff.

I appreciate your continued support.

Thank you.
