HCA president G. Vivekanand, others recall his contribution to cricket

Captain of Chennai Super Kings M.S. Dhoni made his presence felt at the naming of the main entrance of Rajiv Gandhi Stadium after late M.V. Sridhar, before his team took on Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL league match here on Sunday.

Dhoni, acceding to the request of Apex Council of Hyderabad Cricket Association headed by G. Vivekanand, formally cut the ribbon to mark the occasion.

There were no speeches, but tributes were paid quietly to one of the best administrators from the city, Dr. Sridhar. It may be mentioned here that Dr. Sridhar was also former Hyderabad Ranji captain and one of the most prolific scorers in Ranji Trophy, besides being the Secretary of HCA. He also held some of the high-profile posts in the BCCI, including general manager (operations) before his untimely death. Dhoni, like many senior India players, had a special bond with Dr. Sridhar as he was also the manager of Indian team on the Australian tour when the infamous ‘Monkeygate’ scandal rocked the cricketing world. “We thought the best tribute to Dr. Sridhar would be with this gesture. He was always a big source of support given his vast experience and knowledge of the game. We miss his expertise badly,” Dr. Vivek said. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Sridhar’s wife and his mother.
