Gang hacks rowdy to death

A rowdy, who recently came out on bail, was hacked to death by a gang at Karikalambakkam near here on Saturday night.

According to the police, the victim, Devadas, 34, of Karikalambakkam Colony, was returning on a two-wheeler from Korkadu to Karikalambakkam with his friend Jayaprakash, when a six-member gang on three motorcycles waylaid them near the Puduvai Bharathiyar Grama Bank and hacked Devadas.

The gang inflicted multiple cut and stab wounds on Devadas and left him lying in a pool of blood on the Karikalambakkam Road, the police said.

The incident happened around around 7 p.m.

On information, Senior Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Apoorva Gupta visited the spot and conducted an inquiry. The body was retrieved and sent for post-mortem to the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital at Kathirgamam.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Devadas had several cases registered against him in Puducherry. In 2012, a loadman was mistaken for Devadas and killed by a gang in Perungalur, the police said. Further investigations are on.
