A 55-year-old woman was killed when an air conditioner exploded at her house in Krishnagiri on Sunday morning. The victim,
Angela Mary, was the headmistress at a government primary school in Mottur,
police sources said.
The incident happened at the house in Shanthi Nagar around 5am. “She was fast asleep after her husband Albert went out for a walk. The explosion caused a fire in the bedroom. She died due to burns and suffocation caused by smoke,” said a police officer.
Neighbours, who spotted the billowing smoke, rushed to the house to rescue her. But, there was no response from Mary, who was trapped inside the bedroom. They informed police and Albert. Police and fire service personnel rushed to the house and disconnected the power supply. They then broke opened the bedroom door only to find Mary dead. TNN
