Indore: 78 super speciality centres to come up in country says J P Nadda


Indore: Union minister of health and family welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda on Thursday said there is regional imbalance in the country in terms of health care facilities.

Addressing the foundation stone laying programme of super speciality centre in MGM Medical College campus, Nadda said country’s southern region has several public and private health centres but central, eastern and north eastern parts lack the facilities.

“To acquire balance, the government is in the process of establishing 78 super speciality centres in central and north eastern parts of the country,” he said. These centres will have work culture of All India Institute of Medical Sciences as AIIMS doctors will train and support the staff of these centres.


The health minister said construction of super speciality centre will be completed in 21 months. Speaking further, Nadda said super speciality centre will have 237 beds after which 164 more beds will be added. “The government plans to increase seats of post graduate courses in medical education to 70,000 while under-graduate seats will increase up to 1 lakh by 2019,’ he added. Talking about his ministry’s achievements, Nadda said, “We will start universal screening for people above age 30 in which they will go through various tests that will included tests to detect cervical cancer, diabetes etc.”

Sumitra Mahajan asks minister to appoint management officer

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Thursday asked J P Nadda to work on appointing a hospital management officer at hospitals having more than 100 beds to decrease administrative work of doctors. She has been raising this demand for long time. “I also request the health minister to work for the development of district hospitals so that burden of medical colleges and hospitals like MY Hospital can decrease,” Mahajan said. The Lok Sabha Speaker also raised the issue of students of Modern Institute of Medical Science and requested the health minister to shift students to other medical colleges.
