A 33-year-old man has been charged after pointing a gun at two people in Newark, police say.

The incident began about 4:45 p.m. Thursday as a 20-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were inside a Peach Road residence arguing with two other people over a debt, said Sgt. Gerald J. Bryda, a Newark police spokesman.

As they argued, a man unknown to the man and woman emerged from a bedroom and pointed a handgun at them, threatening to shoot them if they did not leave the residence, Bryda said.

Both fled and called 911.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and found a handgun. They charged Charles R. Dunagan, of Bear, with two counts each of aggravated menacing, terroristic threatening and a single count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Dunagan was taken to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute after failing to post $23,000 cash bail.

Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to contact police at (302) 366-7100, ext. 425.
