2019 Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder Laps Around the Nurburgring

The Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder is finally testing on the track, where it belongs.

The last time spy photographers caught a prototype on camera, the Boxster Spyder was braving wintry conditions during cold weather testing. Now, it’s hitting the Nurburgring and, given the lack of camouflage, expect the model to make its debut soon. It’s still unclear what will power the Boxster Spyder, but latest rumors point to a naturally aspirated, flat-six engine with output around 400 horsepower. It’s believed the engine will be a detuned version of the 911 GT3’s powerplant. A six-speed manual transmission is all but guaranteed, the question is whether Porsche will offer a PDK dual clutch as an option.

Like the previous Boxster Spyder, expect this model to be the lightest in the range, which means some luxury amenities like air conditioning will be tossed out. Aluminum panels are also likely to help put the Boxster on a diet.

Look for more information on the 2019 Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder sometime this summer, when it should be making its debut.
