Indore: Cash crunch continues, supply from RBI likely on April 21

Indore: The wedding season is in full swing but people are finding it difficult to make payments due to cash crunch prevailing in the city. On Thursday too, banks did not receive fresh currency notes from Reserve Bank of India. As a result, the banks put money in ATMs after whatever cash they received from customers.

Though the cash crunch is not as deep as it was after centre introduced demonetisation one and half years back, a large number of ATMs are cashless. For instance, State Bank of India requires Rs 30 crore to operate all its ATMs at full capacity in Indore district for up to three days. At present, it is managing with just Rs 9 crore. Thus out of its 278 ATMs, half are without cash and remaining are functioning with limitation.

Mukesh Bhatt, lead bank (Bank of India) district manager said RBI is likely to supply cash by Saturday evening. Thus the cash supply will become normal by Monday noon.
