PARADISE — Henrietta’s strong finish to the season resulted in a second consecutive district title Friday night as the Lady Bearcats took down Paradise 13-7.
The Lady Bearcats (15-9, 10-4) have now won eight straight games since pitcher Haleigh Hogan returned from injury, but it was Henrietta’s offense that carried them against the Lady Panthers in the 8-3A clincher.
Henrietta broke open a tie game in the fifth with six runs. Maddie Brown homered while Kylee Erickson had three hits and three RBIs. Kaci Williams and Kylee Halter each drove in two runs, too.
City View (18-7, 9-5) clinched second place with an 11-8 victory after scoring 10 runs in the first three frames.
Whitney Zaloski, who had the game-winning hit in a 14-inning win over Paradise, was 5 for 5 with four RBIs. Mackenzie Cave had four hits, while Kori Hurd drove in three runs and had three hits along with Maddie Chalenburg.
Bowie, Paradise and Boyd finish tied for third at 8-6 and will have tiebreaker games Monday in Henrietta. Boyd and Paradise play at 5 p.m. with the winner facing Bowie at 7:30 p.m. If Bowie loses, it plays the loser of the first game at 5 p.m. Tuesday for fourth place.
Lady Hawks knock off Burkburnett
IOWA PARK — Allyson Stewart tossed a two-hit shutout Friday night as Iowa Park stunned Burkburnett 1-0 in their season finale.
The Lady Hawks scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the sixth on Jordan Bajo’s fly ball that resulted in an error.
Stewart struck out three, while Burkburnett’s Jocelyn Bright fanned eight and allowed only three hits. Iowa Park’s win puts both teams at 3-5 in district so a tiebreaker game will be needed next week to determine third and fourth place.
Lady Raiders end season with loss
Rider’s remote playoff chances ended Friday night with an 11-0 setback against district champion Denton Ryan at Sunrise Optimist Complex.
Even an upset wouldn’t have gotten Rider in a tiebreaker after Braswell clinched the last spot up for grabs with a 1-0 win over Denton.
Ryan’s Brianna Leeds surrendered seven hits, but Rider (5-13, 4-8) couldn’t string any of them together as it finishes in sixth place. Old High, which had a bye, placed fifth at 5-7.
